Yumi Katsura is one of Japan’s and the world’s most celebrated and prolific designers. Praised as “The Missionary of Bridal,” her magnificent bridal creations are considered original and innovative masterpieces. Her elegant style is known for rich embellishment, luxurious fabric and masterful techniques.  She has been a pioneer of Japanese bridal fashion and has continued to stand at the forefront of the wedding fashion industry. Her unique silhouette inspired by the 19th-century kimono launched in 1981 is still recognized today as perfection in style that appeals to brides around the world.

Yumi Katsura opened her first bridal salon in 1964 in Tokyo and the following year showcased the first bridal collection show ever held in Japan.  In 2005 she opened her bridal boutique in Paris and in 2006 opened the Yumi Katsura Bridal House in New York. Today, her business has expanded across Japan with more than 75 franchise shops. She has also opened bridal shops in major cities in China and in Los Angeles, in the U.S.

Throughout her design career, she has been honoured with numerous national and global fashion awards. She became the first Asian member of the Haute Couture of Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana, Italy’s most important haute couture establishment and the proprietor of Milan Fashion Week. Since 2008, she has showcased her exquisite bridal collection at the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. She has also been invited to present her exquisite design at major fashion events worldwide such as Donna Sotto le Stelle, one of the most prestigious shows in Italy, along with world-class fashion houses Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Missoni and Etro and  China’s first bridal fashion show. She founded the Yumi Katsura Bridal Museum in Kobe, Japan, to exhibit authentic traditional bridal gowns from around the world. Her influence in the wedding fashion industry has made her head of important wedding associations.

Yumi Katsura’s latest bridal collection “Wonderful East Meets West” is an exquisite blend of traditional style and innovation. The quintessence of Japanese tradition, arts and kimono heritage is reflected in the fabric and craftsmanship and beautiful bridal creations that incorporate Western lace and patterns. Both reflect Yumi Katsura’s signature of nobility, elegance and romance.
