Sakuna Rosé 2011 Launch - Cafe@2
Thai winemaker Nikki Lohitnavy launched her new vintage Sakuna Rose 2011 at The Conrad Hotel's Cafe@2 French/Thai Brasserie on Wednesday 8th June 2011.
Nikki is the Vineyard and Winery Operation Director at the GranMonte Family Vineyard in Asoke Valley, Khao Yai. Although the new Sakuna Rose topped the bill, the evening also showcased other fine wines from the vineyard. Spring Chenin Blanc 2009, Heritage Syrah 2009 and Fiori Syrah 2008 were served to complement the brasserie's Les Halles Butcher Night buffet.
The first female winemaker in Thailand, Nikki is credited with turning the family vineyard's products into some of the finest in the country. GranMonte recently won two silver medals and a bronze medal in the prestigious Decanter World Wine Competition 2011 in the UK.

The silver awards went to the 2009 Asoke Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah and the 2009 Heritage Syrah, while the bronze medal was awarded to the 2010 Spring Chenin Blanc. The 2010 Sakuna Rose Syrah was also commended.
GranMonte wines are constantly improving, as evidenced by the awards, and much of the credit goes to Nikki, whose overseas training and degrees in viticulture and wine making have proved a major asset.
Her father, Khun Visooth Lohitnavy, is the CEO and managing Director of GranMonte. He noted that "Nikki's involvement in the wine making for GranMonte has been a milestone for us. The company can now be regarded as a serious wine producer, and we would like to think that we rank right up there with some of the leading producers in the world."
