Mandarin Oriental Anniversary Wine Launch



Bangkok’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel celebrates its 135th anniversary in 2011, and to mark the occasion two private label wines from Monsoon Valley vineyards have been launched.

The specially labelled Monsoon Valley Colombard and Shiraz wines will be available in all bars and restaurants in the legendary hotel from July 2011 onwards.

Winemaker Kathrin Puff, from Siam Winery, and Kim Wachtveitl, the Wine Marketing and Business Development Director of Siam Winery, were on hand to present the special labels at a wine evening at the hotel’s Bamboo Bar.

New Thai-Chin Mansion Menu @ Blue Elephant


Bangkok's Blue Elephant Cooking School and Restaurant has launched a special menu to celebrate the 108th anniversary of the Thai-Chin Mansion, in which it sits, on South Sathorn Road.

The menu has been created by Nooror Somany Steppe, the founder and Master Chef of the Blue Elephant Group, and is inspired by the national cuisines of the historic mansion's previous owners.

Registered as a historical heritage site by the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the current owners, the property began life as the Bombay Department Store before becoming the Imperial Headquarters of the Japanese Army during World War Two.

Celebrity Chef Daniel Green Launches Eat Well, Feel Well


Dusit Thani Bangkok welcomed internationally acclaimed chef Daniel Green to his launch of a new health food initiative in collaboration with the hotel.


Eat Well, Feel Well will introduce a range of healthy low fat menus that are catered to tempt the palate throughout every meal of the day, from breakfast to appetisers, soups, main dishes and desserts.


The aim is to provide a balanced and nutritious diet by introducing guests to the concept of food that can be healthy without compromising taste.

Portugal at Parkview


To celebrate 500 years of Thai-Portuguese relations, the Parkview Restaurant at the Imperial Queen's Park Hotel held a "Portugal at Parkview" food festival.

The event was presided over by Dr. Jorge Torres-Pereira, the Portuguese Ambassador to Thailand (left), who introduced Chef Martinho Moniz who flew in from Portugal to prepare a range of specialty dishes.

Passing Through the Veil Exhibition Opening


Bruce Gunderson's latest exhibition, Passing Through the Veil - Reflections on the Legends of Southeast Asia, was opened at The Art Center at Chulalongkorn University on Thursday June 30th.

The exhibition features a collection of photomontages that depict the region's best known folk tales, and includes his most recent series Sang Thong, as well as Mae Nak and Khun Chang Khun Phaen.

Zebra Exhibition at Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel


The Wine Pub at Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel held an opening night for an exhibition by the French artist Bilou on 23rd June 2011.  The Zebra Exhibition is a collection of contemporary artworks that are completed using a new technique whereby images are painted in acrylic on canvas board.  Thirty pieces will feature at the bar in multicolour and black and white until 31st July 2011.

Conrad Bangkok, led by General manager Vincent Mercurio (third left), recently organised the annual special event The Conrad Wedding Fair 2011 under the concept "Your Perfect Day at Conrad" to  present new creative wedding trends and styles to interested couples.  The event included a Wedding and Jewellery Fashion Show by Ganit - The Wedding Gallery and Dynasty along with various activities for future brides and grooms at The Ballroom of Conrad Bangkok.

Blue Elephant Outside Catering Launched


Chef Nooror Somany-Steppe, founder of the Blue Elephant Group, hosted a reception on board the Manohra River Cruise on the Chao Phraya River to celebrate the official launch of the new "Blue Elephant Catering With a Difference" service.


Her son Kim Steppe (right), general manager of the Blue Elephant Governor Mansion in Phuket, was on hand to join in the celebrations, along with representatives of other Blue Elephant branches around the world.
