New Thai-Chin Mansion Menu @ Blue Elephant

21.07.2011

Bangkok's Blue Elephant Cooking School and Restaurant has launched a special menu to celebrate the 108th anniversary of the Thai-Chin Mansion, in which it sits, on South Sathorn Road.

The menu has been created by Nooror Somany Steppe, the founder and Master Chef of the Blue Elephant Group, and is inspired by the national cuisines of the historic mansion's previous owners.

Registered as a historical heritage site by the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the current owners, the property began life as the Bombay Department Store before becoming the Imperial Headquarters of the Japanese Army during World War Two.

A variety of succulent dishes have therefore been designed around the traditional fare associated with India, Japan, China and Thailand to create the unique Thai-Chin Mansion Menu.  Items include Vegetable Samoza Spring Roll, Kebab Chicken Sai Oua, Prawn Sushi, Nam Prik Phaow Plaa Yang and Dim Sum with Foie Gras and Chicken.

Master Chef Nooror said "We were simply delighted that the mansion was available for us to make it the home of our Blue Elephant Cooking School and Restaurant in Bangkok when the Thai-Chinese Chamber moved to modern premises nearby in 2002.  The mansion's exciting history inspired me to create the unique "Thai-Chin" menu to honour this century-old mansion.  In addition, I was fortunate to have spent nearly three months in the kitchens of the grand Taj Hotel in Bombay, and have on several occasions been invited as a Celebrity Chef at the Tokyo Hilton and most recently at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai to promote Thai cuisine in India, Japan and China so with these experiences I feel that it is most appropriate for me to create a menu that is essentially Thai, but with an innovative twist  that pays homage to the former owners of the Thai-Chin mansion".

The special menu will only be available for two months, August and September 2011, with specific dishes available a la carte, or with the entire set menu priced at B1,150 ++ per person.
